Youville Digital Citizenship Campaign

Federal Trade Commission (FTC)

Kids today are getting online earlier than ever. And the scammers are waiting for them. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) needed a new educational program to teach digital literacy to tweens ages 8 to 12.

Research, then write.

Extensive research was the first stage of our partnership. We conducted a series of in-depth interviews (IDIs) with subject matter experts in the categories of kids media, educational technology, and online safety/privacy. We combined these learnings with insights from tweens themselves to develop our program and curriculum. The end result – Youville, a fantastical adventure that is entertaining, actionable, and grounded in the needs of students and teachers.

Passing the test.

Youville has been well received by both teachers and students. The majority of our focus group participants from both audiences indicated that they would enjoy using the curriculum. Educators found the lesson plans to be supportive of their existing curriculum and easy to implement. Youville’s nonlinear structure gives educators the space to customize the experience for their students and to focus on the lessons that are most applicable. The result is an educational experience that is ownable by the FTC and implementable by teachers across the country.
